 Nothing Better Tougher

I have a background in nuclear engineering. I've heard that the proof of genius is whether one can explain complex things in simple terms. I learned a bit of calculus in college, and as an enterprising couple, I see a correlation between math and marriage – especially between calculus and a great marriage of two serial social entrepreneurs. (it’s tough)

Let me share transparently (read between the lines). There is nothing more frustrating, nor more rewarding than working together as an entrepreneurial couple. Trust me on this!

I've battled and preached and looked for answers from others for three decades, so I know the enterprising circus come-to-town first hand. Here's an analogy from mathematics that might demonstrate the magnitudes of challenge and reward involved with working as a couple.

                • Learning to be creative and innovative is like learning to count primes; 1, 3, 5, 7...
                • Learning to launch and sustain an enterprise in the market is like adding; 1+3+5
                • Learning to mature one's character with what life brings is like multiplication; 1 x 3 x 5
                • Learning to be a parent, business AND/OR marriage partner is like learning algebra; 12 (32 + 52)
                • Learning to do all of these, simultaneously, under the same roof; with volatile incomes and at-risk endeavors, and uncertain schedules and motives is pure calculus hell (expand diagram)

Therefore, I'm honored to introduce you to some of the most amazing couples that have failed miserably, and succeeded nicely. They will share their hard-earned skills and wisdom, so we don't have to continue learning by trial and error. You can meet some of them as members, by registering yourself, and searching the articles, directory and other tabs of the site, and by attending a live workshop , or an online webinar.

In future postings, and topics in chapter 6 of Entrepreneurial Schizophrenia, I’ll warm up with some relational mathematics so we can slowly wade into the deep end of the calculus pool together.

"One day I decided to scan in the notes from all the classes I took at MIT, in my four years there (1995-1999). Perhaps some of them will be of use to you?"  Edward S. Boyden, Ph. D.

What I learned, and forgot, about math, algebra and calculus has helped my marriage. Maybe that the “answer” isn’t always obvious? Thanks for the reminder Dr. Boyden.

Angelina’s thoughts:  'The Love-Hate Analogy' is based on probabilities and logic; the 'Chaos Theory' is a branch of mathematics which studies the behavior of certain dynamical systems fully determined by initial conditions where no random elements are involved. In simple terms: sometimes bittersweet chocolate needs to be dipped into a jar of peanut butter to smooth out the taste, alongside a glass of wine.

Common! You have to be kidding? Can you think of anything tougher than getting along with your business partner and spouse? Burying my first-born, nope. Bankruptcy? nope. Two life-changing accidents? nope.
How about you? Anything tougher?
